What field service software actually costs a trades shop

The question: “I run a six-truck shop. What am I really going to pay for scheduling software?”

Two of the three publish their prices. The one that does not is also the one with a five-figure setup fee. Here is the whole picture, with every number sourced.

The per-tech trap

Jobber and Housecall Pro price by tier — a band of users for a flat monthly. ServiceTitan prices per technician. That difference does not matter at three trucks and matters enormously at fifteen.

Run the arithmetic before the demo, not after it. At ten techs, the middle of ServiceTitan's published-by-third-parties range is $2,750 a month, or $33,000 a year, before the implementation fee lands on top. Housecall Pro's MAX tier covers eight users for $329 a month — $3,948 a year.

Why the setup fee is the real decision

A monthly fee is reversible. You can leave next month. A $5,000–$50,000 implementation is not — it is a sunk cost that will keep you on the platform through two or three years of frustration you would otherwise have walked away from.

That is not an argument against ServiceTitan. Shops that need what it does are usually glad they bought it. It is an argument for knowing the number before you are eleven weeks into an onboarding.

What none of them do

All three assume a shape. They assume your job numbers look like their job numbers, your approval chain looks like their approval chain, and your costing rolls up the way theirs does.

When it fits, buy it — it is far cheaper than anything custom, and we will say so. When it does not, the usual outcome is that a shop pays the subscription and keeps the manual step it bought the software to remove. That gap is the only thing we build into.
